A girl in a red-pink gown is framed by swords. She is not afraid; she wields her own sword. Her brown hair is in an updo and her brown eye reflect the red of her dress. She is backed into a corner: to the right is an open archway, to the left is the shadow of a sword pointed at her back. A window is in the upper lefthand corner. Above her, center, is the shadow of a man in a hat, who is carrying a dagger. It is unclear if he is friend or foe. ONE FOR ALL is in white-silver letters that mimic the color of the swords. The edges of the letters are sharp. LILLIE LAINOFF follows below, center, in a soft brown-gold font.

Across The Pond!

So much has happened in the past few months, it’s been hard to keep up with it all! I’ve been featured on a number of author panels, including one on Literary Activism at the [margins.] conference. I also participated in a round table discussion on accessibility and inclusivity in publishing and literature (part one can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFVnRFSfy_Q&t=1s.)

Disabled Kidlit Writers was featured on the Lead On ADA 30 blog tour (in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act), sponsored by Walmart and Wells Fargo. I had a blast filming a video about the importance of disability representation in kidlit, as well as during the twitter conversation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkmWz0KKeV8&feature=youtu.be.)

And, as for the title of this post: I moved to Norwich (yes, in England) – specifically, to the University of East Anglia for their incredible MA program in Creative Writing Prose Fiction! It’s an honor to be part of such a storied program. Classes are a bit different this year, since they’re all on Zoom, but I (and the rest of my cohort) are making the most of it!

A few more fun things: Disabled Kidlit Writers had its anniversary in July, and now has over 200 members; I finished second round edits on One For All (I didn’t think I could love this book more, but turns out that it is possible!); and I helped contribute to a Book Riot list for great YA books with ownvoices disability representation (https://bookriot.com/ownvoices-ya-books-about-disability/).

Book Deal Announcement: ONE FOR ALL

Keeping this a secret since November has been agonizing, but I’m so, so happy to be able to say that my debut novel, ONE FOR ALL, has found a home with Farrar, Straus & Giroux!

No pre-order links yet (2022 is still a long ways off!) but until then, you can add OFA to your Goodreads to-read shelf here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/51238708-one-for-all?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=R45fbD89ID&rank=1

The Los Angeles Review Literary Awards

Being a writer/in publishing means you are constantly keeping secrets that you have to wait weeks/months to announce – so I’m ecstatic I can finally share this one: I won the LAR Literary Award for Short Fiction! My story “How to Tell That Guy You’ve Been Dating, Your Boyfriend, Or Your Friend (Whom You’re Actually in Love With) You Have a Disability,” and the runners-up, will be published in 2020’s LAR best-of annual print edition, issue no. 24. My story will also be available to read online with the other award winners.
